It’s been a long winter. I’m nursing a frozen shoulder, which has really put pay to my creativities. I’m so grateful for the steroid injection I had early in the new year, that really helped with the pain and enabled me to work with my physiotherapist to get some movement back. It’s going to be a long journey though, up to 3 years to get full mobility!

Anyway, embroidery has filled the gap that free motion embroidery and knitting used to fill.

I’ve been creating my entire life and I can honestly say that this piece is the first piece that has happened so organically. The first piece that I have been completely happy with. From start to finish, the whole 80+ hours it took, it was right.

I’ve never felt this before, perhaps I have finally found what I ‘should’ be doing, who knows?

As for my birthday, I was treated to breakfast in bed, before having a beautifully lazy day. So nice not to be working, although I was very sad and filed my tax return, I know, I should get a life!!

Down the garden path

Measuring 75cm long x 14cm high. Hand stitched on linen using mainly vintage threads on a partially painted background which has been lightly padded and fixed, with a piece of vintage lace, to an antique bobbin, which has been left exactly as I got it to show the wear and tear that years in a mill has left it with. Given a new lease of life, displaying a piece of embroidered art. All held together with a little key!

I’m just sat here contemplating everything.

The world is just such a mess right now, I’ve no idea what the answer is, to be honest I’d just rather hunker down and not leave the house, but we all know that’s not being very realistic, but it is my safe space.

I realised that when lockdown happened. I was so happy not being able to go out. I was fortunate that I already had grocery deliveries, so they carried on. Just me and my youngest daughter and then cats.

It was bliss.

I create, mixed media art, it was a strange time as so many more people started making things, lots of new accounts appearing on Facebook, people realising that they needed something to do to pass those long hours, days, weeks.

I’ve created forever, just for me at first, but then one of my faeries came to life and my eldest said I had to get it out there, for the world to see.

So I did, and people loved her. In Search of Faerie Nuff was born.
